<hi style=afpcap>The last aircraft type ordered by the US Air Force specifically for the defence of the North American continent was the Convair F-106 Delta Dart. A production run of 340 F-106A and two seat F-106B versions were ordered between 1956 and 1959 serving operationally with Air Defence Command exclusively, and later with the Air National Guard. The F-106 remained in service until 1988 when the last Fighter Interceptor Squadrons re-equipped with the F-15 Eagle. The F-106 was also the last of the Century series in operational service. </hi>
